Global Leaders Program

Kato Toshihiko
Board Member/ Executive Vice President for education

In 2013, Hitotsubashi University launched the Global Leaders Program (GLP) to foster new “Captains of Industry” for this global society, which has sent a number of talented program graduates out into the world. At the four Faculties of Commerce and Management, Economics, Law, and Social Sciences, 10 to 15 top students are selected from each faculty at the end of their first year and they are provided with an education based on the curriculum matching the needs of each faculty. This program aims to foster global leaders equipped with the following key abilities: constructing theories based on real-world observation, communicating in English and/or other languages fluently, innovating and reforming Japanese and global systems, leading and setting global rules through logical reasoning and negotiations, proposing policy recommendations to solve global issues, and setting agendas, with a particular focus placed on active learning such as through courses jointly held with overseas universities, short-term overseas training programs, and long-term study abroad programs at our partner universities. For details on these courses and programs, please visit the GLP website of each faculty (For the Faculty of Commerce and Management, please refer to the Shibusawa Scholar Program.) Full support will be provided for students wishing to enroll in study abroad programs. All students can apply for a variety of scholarships upon satisfying their requirements. In addition, students selected under the GLP are eligible for the scholarship by the Tazaki Foundation, which provides support for those who wish to pursue studies in the United Kingdom.
